The National Energy Conservation Award (NECA) is an initiative by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. The aims of this award is to recognize and honour industrial units, institutions, and establishments that have made significant contributions to reducing energy consumption while maintaining or enhancing their operational efficiency.

ln the context of global climate challenges and increasing energy demands, the need for sustainable energy use has become more urgent than ever. NECA plays a crucial role in advancing this goal within India by promoting the adoption of energy-efficient technologies and practices. By recognizing outstanding achievements in energy conservation, the award motivates organizations to implement best practices and innovative strategies, contributing significantly to lndia's mission of sustainable development and energy efficiency.

The primary objectives of the National Energy Conservation Award are:

• To recognize and reward efforts made by organizations and individuals in conserving energy.
• To encourage industries and establishments to adopt energy-saving technologies.
• To promote awareness of the benefits of energy efficiency and conservation.
• To support India's commitment to global climate change goals and reduce carbon emissions.

The awards are presented every year on December 14, celebrated as National Energy Conservation Day. This day serves to raise awareness about energy efficiency and conservation across the country. These awards are presented by eminent dignitaries and highest functionaries such as the Hon'ble President, Hon'ble Prime Minister, and Hon,ble Union Minister of Power. The event is marked by the presence of top government officials, industry leaders, and other stakeholders.

The NECA covers various sectors, including industries, commercial buildings, transport, institutions & energy efficient appliances. The selection process involves a Technical Committee, headed by Member (Thermal), CEA, with representatives from the Ministry of Railways, Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), National Productivity Council (NPC) and Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) & Research institutes/Association of industrial Sector. The technical committee evaluates the applications and recommends the awardees to the Award Committee, chaired by the Secretary (power) with members being Chairman, Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Additional Secretary & Financial Adviser, Ministry of Power, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Managing Director, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and Secretary, BEE.

The Award Committee reviews and approves the sectors eligible for the NECA and makes the final decision on the awardees based on recommendations from the Technical Committee
